This is the closest picture I could find of how awesome I am, except I am bald and have a full beard.
I've been hanging around here since late 2007/early 2008. My screen name is fhrblig (pronounced "Bob").
I was born way too many years ago in Michigan's upper peninsula, but we moved to Colorado when I was 4 and I've lived here ever since. I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else. Sure, it can get cold here sometimes, but most of the time the weather is great and the sun is shining. Plus, I live in a big city (Denver) but I'm close to the mountains and can find a nice twisty mountain road to go drive on whenever I feel like it. Can't ask for much more than that.
Unlike a lot of the guys (and girls) here, I haven't ever really owned a true sports car; the closest I've ever come has been an '87 CRX and an '87 Integra, but they were both base models with automatic transmission and not very powerful engines. While my current ride gets a high score on the Jalopmeter, I think I'm cheating a bit. Sure, it's RWD with a manual transmission and an inline engine, but it's also a 4-cylinder pickup truck ('09 Ranger XL). I don't really have plans to get anything more enthusiast-oriented either, at least not anytime soon. You see, I tend to like to drive cars (and trucks) where it takes a bit more work to have fun. Anyone can drive a car that's designed to be fast and sporty in such a manner, but I can wring joy out of a 48-hp 3-cylinder powered Chevy Sprint over a mountain pass. That's a very satisfying thing.
I have a major thing for bare-bones vehicles, and I probably got that from both my mom and my dad. My mom's favorite cars were a '72 Malibu coupe with no options and an '86 Civic hatch that had no options either. I remember how happy she was when she bought that Civic new; it was her first new car and she had worked her butt off for it. My dad has an '83 CJ-7 he bought new and has beaten to death, and also a '92 F-150 with 4WD, the unkillable inline-6 and a 5-speed. I grew up seeing how much fun could be had with unassuming cars and it rubbed off on me.
I also have a weird love of big, floaty American luxo-barges. I sometimes think I have the spirit of a 65-year-old bank president inside me because I have a deep and abiding love of the Lincoln Town Car, and I also consume mass quantities of scotch and cigars. If I had the means, I'm sure I would buy a car like a Dodge Challenger or a Ford Raptor, or whatever... but oftentimes, I'm happy just getting the chance to drive them once in a while.
On the non-car front, I'm into what nearly every red-blooded American man is into; football, cars, beer, etc., except for the one major thing (chicks). I'm not sure how that happened, other than that if there's a God then I'm proof that he has a sense of humor.
Around the same time that I started coming here I met my partner, and we've been together for almost 6 years now. He's the complete opposite of me, but we clicked. I am still with him even though he's admitted he once nearly bought a Jeep Compass. I forgave him, but I won't let him go car shopping by himself anymore. He drives a new '13 Juke SV AWD.

Heh, I know what you mean by squeezing fun out of bare bones cars... Until a few months back, my parents owned a bare bones Chevrolet (Opel) Corsa with the 1.4 engine and 5 speed manual transmission, but, because my old man is friends with the owner of my hometown's Chevy dealership and the Corsa was going out of production, ours came from the factory fitted with high compression heads, high flow headers, alloy wheels and dealership fitted sticky Pirellis... and it still wasn't remotely fast, but damn it was fun. I drove it for a while, back when we were replacing the front suspension struts on my Tipo, and it was like driving a small, nervous hot rod that would rattle and buzz and threaten to blow up at any speeds close to fast. It was the most fun I've ever had in a slow car, if only for the sensorial overload of that red little hatchback.

I'm glad $kay did that, because... I don't actually know. I am confused by the witchcraft of Kinja. I can't remember how I got it, even, but thanks to whoever did it for me.

I have fond memories of lots of my cars, and they are all cars that enthusiasts don't really care about. I loved my old Celebrity (it was not good at off-roading, though). I owned 2 Chevy Sprint 5-doors that were beyond underpowered but they were honest, plucky little things. I really enjoyed my Olds Alero's handling (but not it's awful 4-speed auto), and even my Dodge Caravan had its moments (it got pressed into courier duty frequently).
My Ranger is great; it's mostly similar to the Ranger that was sold in Brazil but I think it had different engines (and weird door handles) in Brazil. 143 HP isn't much, but it's plenty. I get excellent mileage and it does just great in the snow when it has the right tires.
